editor's note

Hi suma friends,

We’re around the corner from our last week of crowdfunding and we’re still around our halfway point. Help us get to our goal by donating at mysuma.org/donate or sharing our campaign! Exciting news- in August we’re aiming to expand our summer special to the Lents International Farmers Market. The Oregon-specific broadband affordability program workgroup will meet on Monday, July 15, at 1:30 pm PST, we encourage folks to join.

Thanks for reading and keeping us with us,

Crowdfund

We’re halfway through the suma crowdfunding campaign and halfway through our goal of $15,000 raised! Our campaign wraps up next Friday, the 26th. Help us reach our final goal! We would love it if y'all would continue to share content on social media, donate if you haven’t already, and if your corporation or industry has a donation practice, please connect us! You can find our flyer on our LinkedIn post to share. A special thank you to everyone who has already donated!

Tropicale!

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Tropicale event on July 3rd! We had such a fun night

and are grateful for your support! Your participation not only made the night enjoyable but also

helped us make a positive impact through our campaign. We couldn't have done it without you!

A special shout-out to Tropicale for their generous contribution and fantastic partnership. Their support means a lot to us and significantly contributes to our cause.

community catch-up

Broadband Affordability Program

The second conventing of the Oregon-specific broadband affordability program workgroup will be this coming Monday July 15 at 1:30 pm PST. This convening will cover brainstorming customer qualifications, size of subsidy to consumers, funding sources, and whether device funding should be included. We encourage organizations serving those affected by this bill to make their voices heard!! Advocate for the lowest barriers to entry possible, advocate for device inclusion, get creative with funding sources, and ensure that the size of the subsidy is meaningful for frontline communities.

Upcoming Funding Opportunity

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) will soon announce the launch of the Digital Equity Competitive Grant Program. Oregon received a $9.9 million allocation to fund programs that ensure communities have the access and skills to fully participate in the digital world– think digital capacity curriculums, device access, etc. This one pager from NTIA gives some tips on preparing for the funding opportunity.

Lents International Farmers Market

Suma is excited to share that we’re looking to expand our summer special to Lents International Farmers Market in August! This is a chance to bring the benefits of the suma app and the summer special to Portland communities further south and east, and brings our total number of farmers markets to 3: St Johns, King, Lents. Shouts to our partner Portland Farmers Market for inviting us to Lents (and King). Be on the lookout for more news and ways to help us get the word out about our newest farmers market.
